Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac each have announced that they will begin waiving appraisal requirements on a limited number of home-purchase loans they back. Appraisals can still be completed for “peace of mind” but are not required if the home qualifies for the waiver. Additional benefits include saving the expense of an appraisal and reducing closing times by as much as 7-10 days.
